A State Of Grace

Oh darling, I know how it bites,
I can see your heart’s still bleeding,
But, oh darling, these are wasted nights,
You’ve got to stop kicking and screaming.

Oh honeybee, be honey-sweet,
Be whole and sure and smart,
Be all the expectations your mother would meet,
And be the veins that stream from her heart.

Oh soft love, love has jaded you,
But jade love, you must not,
Remember the good, and embrace the lessons
That bittersweet ardour has taught.

Oh sweet-pea, please be safe,
Be warm, be kind, be fine,
Be noble and gentle and grow at your pace,
You will age like Sicilian wine.

Oh summer sky, sky blue air
Is waiting to be scaled by your heart,
Everything that currently aches and scares
Will eventually fuel your art.

Oh young cherub, cheer up, won’t you?
There’s so much of this kingdom to see;
You are young and fresh, though utterly stupid
To think love’s done anything but set you free.

Oh fallen leaf, leave behind the dark,
These are words of solace you must heed;
Indulge, tear apart, turn over, re-embark,
A state of grace is what you need
