All your worth depends on how stud you are. If you are not a volunteer or coordinator for any of the cultural/tech events, you are surely to be frowned upon. If you choose to spend your time studying, you will be labelled as a "nerd" or an RG. If you are the topper you are invariably RGing people. Doesn't matter
if you shared your notes with half the class.
(RG=Relative Grading)
A lot of IITians smoke, drink and take weed regularly. The sad part is they think it is "cool" to do it. Many a
times students(especially freshers) get hooked to these things because they think it is a means to climb the social ladder. (Yeah, even IIT has a social ladder).
All that they succeed in is getting a few backlogs. The smarter ones with self control find their way out though.
An IIT Professor is like a brick wall - no matter how hard you bang, the former would have the final, stupid say.
You don't choose a project. The project chooses you. And most often than not, it would be the one you are least interested in. *
The mess food ensures that you lose all the weight gained during JEE preparation and keeps you in shape.
The frustrated professors leave no stone unturned to ensure that you decide to pursue MBA/non-tech job after graduation. *
The crowd that comes for Socials is already almost
committed. And you realize this after you let them in
at Rendezvous
Your name comes on the Department Notice Board only when your proxy has been caught or something worse.
The students are second to none, except the
Professors and the TAs. And the Lab in-charges. And yes, the UG Section. And last but not the least - the Account Section. I hope I did not miss anyone else out...
You would never have time to think what you want to do. Sometimes it would be the professors troubling, but most often it would be the peers in the cat race inpretty much everything (the famous bhagdadh...!)
Even after experiencing all the above shit, you would still sit with your friends near Wind-T during the last few weeks, cherishing the 4 years you have spent together and wishing that the IIT-life stays on forever, only to realize that If wishes were horses, beggars
could ride....
