A different world waits outside
IIT lifestyle is way different from what happens outside
the campus. So at the end it becomes difficult to
adjust
back to the society. You end up having way too much
expertise in some aspects and almost nothing in some
other.
-Balancing out can be tough.
-Too much competition
Whatever you do, there is usually someone out there
on
campus who can do it much better than you. So
unless you
are absolute best, you do not get appreciated. This
could be
really hard for someone who is learning something and
needs
appreciation to continue. You get to see some of the
best
people in the country and they are truly remarkable.
This
makes you wonder, whether you are worth it or not.
-Too much drama
IIT name brings out too much drama. If I ask my non-
IITian
friends some question like "Which website lets you do
X" which
they were just discussing, they are like "Hey you are
an
IITian go figure out". I mean wtf.
-Too much expectations
You are expected to be the best at everything. Quiz,
Word
games and every other remotely "IQ" related activity.
Any loss
and you get "This is the best you got?" And if you win,
its
like an expected result.
-No girlfriends
The most important thing in a man's life is to be
appreciated
by the fairer sex. After a few years on campus you
start
wondering what is wrong with you. Most of your non-
IITian
friends from college have good relationships and the
best girls
are taken. So you try to seek external validation by
earning
more money, building cool websites, basically all the
things we
are famous for.
-Burnouts due to overwork
Most of us are constantly striving to improve
whatever it is
that occupies our mind. We work at it 10+ hours a day
for
weeks on end, not because we have to but because
we want
to. Sometimes you wonder (towards the end of
burnout, when
you start to plan of partying) is this worth it. A week
later,
you are back in the cycle.
But then again, given a choice to do it all over again?
I
would, most definitely!
